Hackable Solar Electric Car Unveiled

Prolific industrial designer Yves Béhar unveiled never before seen plans for his “hackable” solar powered electric car at the Greener Gadgets conference in NYC . While Béhar and his design studio Fuse Project are not new to transportation design, this next project will be very different from the Mission One electric motorcycle in that it will be designed specifically for the developing world. The idea is that this cute and affordable car will have a standard base frame, but the other components would be almost totally customizable by the end user. 4 Coolest Green Gadgets of 2010

Orange Solar Tent

Orange Solar Tent

The Greener Gadgets Conference debut a lot of cool greener gadgets. Greener Gadgets’ focus on sustainable design brings in some interesting, energy-efficient, long-lasting and low-impact gadgets. Here are four of our favorite products from Greener Gadgets 2010.

The contest entry that got some of the loudest oos and ahs from the crowd was the Orange Solar Tent from Kaleidoscope. Designed to be a glowing beacon in the night at the Glastonbury arts festival in England, the tent provides comfortable evening lighting, making it easier to navigate camp when the sun goes down. The solar panels also store up enough charge during the day to provide power for electronic devices. This is a tent that belongs on Tatooine.

While this tent is slick, it is entirely too heavy and bulky for even the shortest backpacking trip. It is probably best for gadget-addicted car campers or for the music festival-goer who is willing to risk the raucous crowds for a glowing tent that can charge his cellphone

According to AppleInsider, the base model iPad which retails for $499 appears to cost Cupertino only $219.35 to make, based on iSuppli’s analysis.
